Every year around my son’s birthday we have taken a themed photo shoot. Last year around that time of the year he was big into trains. Seizing on that interest we dressed him up as a train conductor and went down to our local train station to take pictures. The pictures turned our great and it was a lot of fun. You can see those here.
For this years pictures me and my wife decided we would let our son decide on theme for the pictures. At the time he was majorly into pirates. We had pirate maps, bandannas, eye patches, pirate hats, and buried treasure all over the house. Everyday we were getting dressed up and following the map over crocodile lake, through the sinking sands, and looking for the hidden X to find the buried treasure. Naturally with how much he was enjoying pretending to be a pirate we fully expected him to say he wanted to be a pirate lo and behold to us, out of the blue he wanted to be a superhero and there was no convincing him otherwise. No idea where that came from but we were game for it.
For the superhero photo shoot I wanted to go somewhere little more urban than where most of my portrait sessions usually are. I also thought it would be cool to go somewhere high so it would be like he was looking down on the people of the city and looking out for them. Tallahassee isn’t very big or urban but it does have the State Capital building. We took the elevator to the top and used the observation floor to get the perspective of looking down on the city.
The photo shoot was a lot of fun. I’m looking forward to next years and who know what theme it will be then.
