It’s that time of year again. Scott Kelby’s Worldwide Photo walk is this upcoming weekend on Saturday, October 13th. If you haven’t heard of a photo walk its a social event where photographers get together to walk around, shoot photos, and have a good time with other photographers. This is the 5th annual event and is free and only requires registration on the event website. Registration is required because each walk is limited to a certain number of walkers to keep things from getting crowded and out of control (typically its 50).
The event is called a “Worldwide” because all day Saturday there are over a thousand photo walks going on all around the globe (1334 registered walks and 29782 walkers at the time of posting this).
If you are interested in participating go to the website and create an account. Once you do that click on the Find a Walk and search to see what walks are available in your area or someplace you are willing to travel to.
Not only is this a social event it is also a competition. At the end of the walk all the walkers have the option to submit an image to the walk leader. That leader then picks the image he/she feels is the best and submits it. That image is then put into a contest against all the other photo walks and prizes are awarded (prize list).
I participated in the walk last year and had a great time. I’m looking forward to another fun year. Here is a link to the walk I’m signed up for, Tallahassee.
Like most events there is a charity tie in, donations and T-shirt sales go to benefit the Springs of Hope Orphanage in Kenya.
